When the Patriots (2-5) travel to MetLife Stadium to play the Jets on 'Monday Night Football' (8:15 p.m. ET, ESPN), they will look to close Week 9 in the NFL with a much-needed first win since Sept. 27 over the Raiders.
Coach Bill Belichick is sticking with Cam Newton at quarterback as he tries to keep getting the better of Adam Gase. The Jets are set again to turn to backup Joe Flacco with Sam Darnold dealing with an aggravation of his right shoulder injury.
The Patriots, meanwhile, will continue to be without their best defensive player, cornerback Stephon Gilmore, missing a second straight game with a knee injury. Newton also will be without his two best wide receivers, N'Keal Harry and Julian Edelman.
Here's everything to know about betting on Patriots vs. Jets in Week 9, including updated odds, trends and our prediction for 'Monday Night Football.'

Jets Vs Vikings History
- Spread: Patriots by 9.5
- Over/under: 41.5
- Point spread odds: Patriots -450, Jets +360

Patriots vs. Jets all-time series
The Patriots have a 67-54-1 lead. Not surprisingly under Belichick, they have won eight in a row in the series. They also have won 11 of 12 and 16 of 18. That all was with Tom Brady at quarterback, however. The Patriots enjoyed a pair of blowouts against Gase's team last season, 30-14 and 33-0.
Three trends to know
— 57 percent of spread bettors like the Patriots to take care of their number as road night favorites, even as it's been increasingly slowly throughout the week.
Vikings Vs Jets Odds Week 9
— 68 percent of over/under bettors expect the teams to overachieve offensively, especially the Patriots, to put the game over.
— The Patriots are 3-5 against the spread this season. The Jets are 1-7, covering against only the Bills two weeks ago.
Three things to watch
Cam and the running game
Newton is a major slump with his passing, but the Patriots should want to lean heavily on his rushing ability to complement more feature work from talented second-year back Damien Harris, expected to play through his ankle injury.
Flacco and the passing game
The Patriots have been proved to be very vulnerable against the run, but they can adjust up front to contain the Jets' anemic ground attack (No. 22 in the league). They will force Flacco to throw the ball and throw different blitz and coverage packages at him. Flacco will be helped by top wide receivers Breshard Perriman (concussion) and Jamison Crowder (groin) playing.
Tanking for Trevor?
The Jets are the only winless team in the NFL and now the Jaguars are the only one-win team in the NFL. They have a bit of a cushion to land the unquestioned top prospect in the 2021 draft, Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence. The Patriots have been trying to play hard for Beilichick during the month-long drought, but it will be interesting if they also get outplayed by a team they absolutely should beat badly.
Stat that matters
282.8. That's how many passing yards per game on average the Jets give up going into Week 9, which is good for No. 29 in the NFL, ahead of only the Vikings, Falcons and Seahawks. Note that Newton by far had his best passing outing against Seattle, and that was also a road game at night. Perhaps Newton will be inspired in prime time to run and pass his way to keeping the Patriots' QB job for the foreseeable future.

Patriots vs. Jets prediction
Vikings Vs Jets Odds
The Patriots will grind this game away with a run-heavy approach led by Newton and Harris, with a few calculated downfield shots to their best wide receiver standing, Jakobi Meyers. The Jets won't find much success running with Frank Gore and others, putting Flacco in tough spots with versatile pressure and tough coverage. In a week of bad prime-time games for the NFL, the Patriots will be playing the role of either the Packers or the Saints, only with much fewer points.
